How to make your own rap and hip hop beats

Making instrumentals is now easy and inexpensive

You no longer need expensive equipment for creating your own DJ beats. In fact, you can easily download the software needed and get started straight away. Whether you’re interested in music for clubs, demos, radio, albums, mix-tapes or multimedia, these beats are of sufficient quality for most commercial applications. At the same time, you do not need to be a professional musician or producer. A 7-year-old child can use the software.

Yes, it is now possible to make your own rap and hip hop instrumentals based on original, royalty-free beats. You can become a member and gain unlimited access to databases containing literally thousands of diverse beats. Even if you have little or no experience, you can create urban, cool, sexy, grungy or mellow beats in no time.

Two of the largest and best quality beat databases are Beats365 and SonicProducer. I have been using both applications and am very happy with each of them for different reasons.

If you are wondering which one is better, here is a quick comparison:

Beats365.com is the world’s largest beat site. It has 39 genres of beats (including Rap, Hip Hop, Eastcoast, Westcoast, Club Bangas, R&B, Reggaeton, Underground and New School). Members can choose from a database containing 100,000 beats (10GB or 24 hours of beats), with unlimited downloads. You can download 1000 beats at a time.

SonicProducer.com allows for easy MP3 export. It has a 16-track sequencer and can hook up with a keyboard, yet is still very user friendly. Extensive tutorials (including videos) are available anyway. Resources such as chord charts and rhythm exercises are also available. Downloads are again unlimited.

Membership of both websites is very reasonable and the fee is one-time only (so there is no need to pay monthly or yearly. The two applications are currently the same price.

Recommendations: If you want ease of use, you could probably go for SonicProducer. If you want the larger beat database, choose Beats365.

Either way, have fun!
